FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions: Listening Mothers
How old should my baby be when I start a Listening Mothers group?
You should start a group when you are comfortable getting out of the house and moving around with your baby. This usually occurs around the time the baby is 4-6 weeks old. However, you can join this group with your baby up to 6 months old.
I am really having a tough time and I am worried about dealing with my issues in a group forum, what should I do?
The good news is, you are not alone, and there is a lot of help available for you. Our facilitators are skilled, well trained and sensitive to this. They will make sure that you feel comfortable in a group setting with the other mothers who likely have similar concerns. If you feel that you need additional support you can speak with a trained professional directly. Please email us at listeningmothers@mindfulparentscommunity.com and indicate in your email that you would like to speak directly with a facilitator and someone will contact you to address your concerns.

I am a second-time mom and this looks interesting but I am not sure that I will be a good fit for this program since I have an older child already. Is this the right place for me?
Yes. Every child is different and brings with him or her different challenges. Since in the Listening Mothers group we explore the importance of mom/baby relationship as the foundation for healthy emotional development, it does not matter if it the second or third(sometimes we get a mom with her 4th!) child. You will be able to deepen your understanding of the unique relationship you have with each one of your children.
I am so pulled now between all of the groups everyone is telling me to join, what do you suggest?
This is really tough. There are great options out there and most of the groups offer great support. The Listening Mothers group is the only one we know of that is research based, run by highly trained professionals and especially reflect on social emotional and secure attachment issues and specifically reflects on social and emotional issues. It is well known today that more than I.Q., E.Q (Emotional Intelligence) is the key to life- long success.
What is the difference between PEPS and Listening Mothers?
Peps is a great support group for moms (and dads) that meets at participants homes and is run by volunteers who encourage peer support and sharing of ideas as well as discussion of relevant and often planned topics. Listening Mothers groups are run by professionals including psychologists, social workers, councilors, and doulas, who are especially trained in infant social emotional development. Usually there are no more than 7 moms and their babies in a group so moms can get to know each other, feel supported, and get a chance to participate and share their concerns. The Listening Mothers group is based on years of research that prove the link between healthy attachment and the optimal development of the child. The topics covered by the Listening Mothers groups are all geared to help strengthen the mother-baby bond through discussion and reflection.
What is the cost of Listening Mothers?
The cost of the program is $120.00 paid directly to the facilitator. A limited sliding scale is available. Please email listeningmothers@mindfulparentscommunity.com if you need more information.
I am a Microsoft Employee, is this part of my EAP package?
