FAQ
Can you tell me, in a nutshell what the Reflective Parenting Program is all about?
The aim of the program is to help parents develop skills to enhance their ability to understand and build stronger relationships with their children. In Reflective Parenting groups parents gain confidence by expanding their understanding of the meaning of their children’s behavior. This understanding helps parents better regulate their own and their child’s emotions with the intention to become less reactive and more reflective. Parents who are able to regain a state of calm are more engaged, more effective, and therefore feel empowered and successful.
Where do the groups meet?
We meet at a number of different locations in and around the Greater Seattle Area. Please see our calendar for further details.
How old does my child have to before I can start the group?
The program is for parents of children who are between the ages of 1 and a half to 5 years old.
How many other parents will be in the class?
On average we will have about 10 participants in each group.
Is it mostly Moms or Moms and Dads?
Ideally we would like if both parents were able to attend the group. That is not always the case. Often, we end up with more moms than dads. We encourage consistency and at the same time we understand that sometimes a parent won’t be able to attend. In that case, it is great if at the other parent attends that group and then can share the experience with their partner. However consistency whenever possible is a key to a successful group.
Can I bring my baby with me? Can I bring my 2 year old?
You can bring a nursing baby with you but not a 2 years old. The group is for parents to get the support that they need and explore different issues. With children in attendance, it would be a different kind of group!
Do you provide childcare?
Sometimes we do, it depends on the location. Please inquire with the group facilitator.
Can I talk with someone about the program before I commit to join?
Absolutely! Please email us at reflectiveparenting@mindfulparentscommunity.com and someone will follow up with you shortly.
I am a third time mom and this program looks interesting but I am not sure that I will be a good fit for this program since I have older children already. Is this the right place for me?
This group is for all parents with children under 5 regardless if they are first or fourth time parents. Every child brings about a unique experience and having other children at home brings up issues of adjustment, sibling rivalry, regressed behavior of the older kids etc. The Relective Parenting Programs address all of these (and other) issues.
What is the cost of the program?
The cost is $200 for one parent and $300 for both.
How long is the program?
The program meets for 8 weeks and each session is 2 hours long.
Are there any scholarships offered?
Yes. Limited scholarships are sometimes offered. Please inquire with the facilitator.
I’m not sure which group to join or where to find the nearest group to me.
You can look up the location of a group near you at our Reflective Parenting Calendar or you can email us at reflectiveparenting@mindfulparentscommunity.com.
I know which group I would like to join. How do I register?
Registration is a three step process. Part one includes filling out this form. Once you have submitted a form, a group facilitator will contact you. The facilitator will conduct a brief introductory interview to ensure they understand what you hope to gain from your participation in our program. And finally, your facilitator will send you a consent form along with payment information, thus concluding your registration for the group.
I still have questions that you have not answered.
