my son the scratcher :-(
Posted at: 2010-02-09 00:27:52
So, sadly my little sweet boy likes to scratch other children (mostly smaller ones) – on the face. From what I gather he doesn’t do it to hurt them (though I’m unclear if he knows that it will before he does it or not). I think he gets excited and or is looking for a reaction. Whatever the case, it is difficult taking him to public play areas, the park, or even out with friends (who have little ones). Anyone else go through this? Ideas? When will it go away :-/ ?

Thanks!

Bed time routine dragged out

I seem to have the same problem with my children (10, 8, 5 and 2).

What I’ve tried – and seems to work most of the time (especially with the older three) is to tell them ahead of time how much time I’ll be able to spend with them that night. Sometimes I have time to read with them and chat and cuddle, sometimes just one and sometimes I only have time to pop in to say goodnight.

I find that it is important to make sure they really hear me and I often have them repeat back to me (in their own words) what I said to make sure that we are all on the same page as to ’what the plan is.’

If (or should I say when) they try to ’push it’ I tell them that if they can’t stick with the plan I won’t be able to spend as much time with them the next night. This usually does the trick. Though it may not work with a 3 year old :-(

Good luck!
